Heartland Football Club History

Heartland Football Club is one of Nigeria's top and popular football clubs which was founded in the year 1976 and is privately owned league located in Owerri Imo State of Nigeria. The team uses Dan Anyiam Stadium as their game arena for national football competitions, football training, friendly matches and tournaments.

Heartland FC

Heartland Football Club is one of the recognised team of Nigeria's Professional Football League which was birthed or founded as Spartans Football Club but in November 1985, the club’s name was changed from Spartans to Iwuayanwu Nationale as one of Nigerian’s top politician and well-known businessman Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu bought the club’s ownership from the Imo State government.

The club bore the name and was addressed as Iwuanyanwu Nationale from the year 1985 to 2006 until on February, 7th 2006 when Imo State government acquired back the ownership from Chief Iwuanyanwu and renamed it again to Heartland Football Club.

Over the years, the team have shown many talents in the National Football Company and have equally made good reputation to gain position to the top in the National Professional Football league. In 2008, the club earned a slot in the Nigerian Champions league after they trounced Kano Pillars by one point.

Heartland Football Club is a club that is well equipped in order to bring significant success to their sponsor and fans. They also play local and international matches with the sole aim of beating the level which the Enyimba FC has attained already. One of the records references to the one Nigeria National League Southern Conference in 2017.

Some of the known key players/defenders of the club include Isaac Okonkwo, Kingsley salami, Francis Benjamin, Cibuzor Okonkwo also Nwankwo Obiora as the midfielder among many others who contributed to the team's success.
